About the Role

The Elite Job is hiring experienced CNC Machinists for precision machining operations in aerospace, automotive, medical device, and industrial manufacturing facilities across the Midwest and Southeast. CNC machining is consistently listed among the best-paying manufacturing jobs available without a four-year college degree. Skilled CNC machinists earn $25 – $40 per hour — and those who can program, set up, and run complex multi-axis machines are commanding premium wages in a market where qualified machinists are increasingly hard to find.

What You Will Do

  • Set up, operate, and monitor CNC turning centers and vertical or horizontal machining centers (VMC/HMC) to produce precision machined components
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T symbols, and part specifications to understand required dimensions, tolerances, and surface finish requirements
  • Write, edit, and optimize CNC programs using G-code at the machine control or through CAM software (Mastercam, Fusion 360, or similar)
  • Select and install appropriate cutting tools, inserts, holders, and workholding fixtures for each operation
  • Perform first-article inspection using precision measurement tools including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and CMM
  • Monitor cutting conditions, adjust feeds and speeds, and troubleshoot tool wear, chatter, and dimensional drift throughout production runs
  • Maintain accurate production records, inspection logs, and non-conformance documentation per quality management system requirements
  • Perform routine machine maintenance including lubrication, coolant management, and filter changes to maintain uptime and part quality

What You Need

  • Minimum 3 years of CNC machining experience on turning or milling operations in a production or job shop environment
  • Ability to read engineering drawings with GD&T callouts and translate them into machining strategies independently
  • Proficiency with precision measurement instruments — micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and bore gauges
  • Basic to intermediate G-code knowledge — ability to edit existing programs and troubleshoot alarms at the control
  • Experience with Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, or Okuma CNC controls
  • Strong attention to detail — tight tolerances and critical dimensions require absolute accuracy
  • High school diploma or GED — no college degree required; vocational machining training is a plus

Nice to Have

  • 5-axis machining experience or Swiss-type lathe operation
  • CAM programming experience using Mastercam, Fusion 360, or NX
  • Experience in aerospace (AS9100), medical device (ISO 13485), or automotive (IATF 16949) quality environments
  • CMM operation and programming experience (PC-DMIS, Calypso, or similar)

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay of $25 – $40 per hour based on machine complexity, programming ability, and industry experience
  • Shift differential pay for afternoon and overnight shifts
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance for full-time machinists
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer match
  • Paid vacation, sick leave, and paid holidays
  • Company-sponsored training on advanced CNC controls and CAM software
  • Career growth into CNC Programmer, Setup Lead, Manufacturing Engineer, and Shop Supervisor roles

CNC machining is one of the most intellectually engaging and best-paying manufacturing careers you can build without a four-year degree. The combination of technical skill, precision measurement, and programming knowledge that a great machinist brings to the shop floor is genuinely rare — and the market pays accordingly. At The Elite Job, we place skilled machinists in top manufacturing facilities and fight for the best compensation on your behalf. Apply today.

The Elite Job is an equal opportunity employer. We place CNC machinists in precision manufacturing environments across the entire United States.
