About the Role
The Elite Job is placing ARDMS-registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers with hospitals, imaging centers, and specialty clinics across the United States. Sonography is one of the best-paying medical imaging careers available without a four-year college degree — registered sonographers earn $38 – $55 per hour, and the BLS reports a median annual salary of $89,340 with strong projected growth through 2030. An associate degree in diagnostic medical sonography and ARDMS registration are the qualifications that open these doors — not a bachelor's or master's degree.
What You Will Do
Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations in assigned specialties including abdominal, obstetric, gynecologic, vascular, and small parts sonography
Prepare patients for examinations by explaining the procedure, positioning the patient appropriately, and applying coupling gel
Operate ultrasound equipment to acquire high-quality diagnostic images, optimizing depth, gain, focal zones, and Doppler settings for each anatomy
Identify normal and abnormal anatomical structures and hemodynamic findings on real-time imaging, documenting key images per department protocol
Complete preliminary image review and annotate images for physician interpretation, noting incidental findings of clinical significance
Maintain complete, accurate exam documentation in the RIS (radiology information system) and PACS (picture archiving and communication system)
Maintain ultrasound equipment cleanliness, probe disinfection between patients, and report equipment malfunction to biomedical engineering
Rotate between general, OB/GYN, and vascular scanning assignments as needed to meet department workflow demands
What You Need
ARDMS registration in Abdomen (AB) and Obstetrics-Gynecology (OB) — additional ARDMS credentials (RVT, FASE) are a strong plus
Graduate of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program (associate degree or post-baccalaureate certificate)
Strong clinical scanning skills with the ability to acquire diagnostic-quality images independently under physician supervision
Physical ability to perform repetitive scanning motions, position patients safely, and push/operate portable ultrasound equipment
Excellent patient communication skills — sonographers work closely with patients during often emotionally sensitive examinations
Familiarity with PACS, RIS, and HL7 order integration workflows in a hospital or imaging center environment
Associate degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography — no four-year degree required
Experience with point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in emergency department or critical care settings
Portable and bedside scanning experience in ICU or trauma environments
Elastography, contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS), or fusion imaging experience
What We Offer
Competitive pay of $38 – $55 per hour based on ARDMS credentials, specialty, and facility type
Shift differential pay for evening, overnight, and weekend assignments
Full medical, dental, and vision insurance for full-time sonographers
401(k) with employer matching contributions
Paid vacation, sick leave, and paid holidays
Annual CME allowance and ARDMS credential renewal support
Career advancement into Lead Sonographer, Clinical Education Coordinator, and Imaging Department Supervisor roles
