The Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center
(UMGCCC) in the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) School of
Medicine has an exciting opportunity for an Events Coordinator
or Events Specialist to provide professional and administrative
support for UMGCCC events or meetings, including visitor travel
logistics. The incumbent will be selected commensurate with their
education and experience.

Primary Duties - Events Coordinator:
- Provide professional and administrative support to department,
campus center, or school events. Coordinate day-to-day operations
of events or meetings for department, school, or campus
center.
- Responsible for facility logistic aspects of events or
meetings, including set-up and tear down, seating arrangements,
technical, and atmosphere.
- Coordinate strategic planning and assist in goal setting for
several events. Assist in creation of novel approaches to building
business such as special events, services or incentives. Assist in
the development and implementation of event concepts and
processes.
- Generate proposals, contracts and other documents to secure
business for all services related to an assigned event(s), such as
facility, caterer, printers, or speakers. Negotiate terms and
conditions of contracts with some latitude.
- Provides general professional and administrative duties to
support events and troubleshoot issues that arise throughout the
event. Assess outcomes and make appropriate recommendations.
- Maintain database or other records of clients, potential
clients and friends of the University.
- Administer budget for assigned events.
- Assist in preparation of promotional and informational
items.
- May supervise staff and/or volunteers and ensure efficient
recruitment/ interviewing and training.
- Maintain UMGCCC online events calendar.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Primary Duties - Events Specialist:
- Provide professional and administrative support to campus
center, department, or school multiple events. Coordinate
day-to-day operations of events or meetings.
- Coordinate facility logistic aspects of events or meetings,
including set-up and tear down, seating arrangements, technical,
and atmosphere.
- Manages all logistic aspects of multiple events or meetings
management, including scheduling, event theme, catering, and
marketing. Develop plan and goals for special events. Develop and
implement event concepts and programming, including registration
and facility layout.
- Generate proposals, contracts and other documents to secure
business for all services related to an assigned event(s), such as
facility, caterer, printers, or speakers. Negotiate terms and
conditions of contracts.
- Provides professional and administrative duties to support
events and troubleshooting issues that arise throughout the
event.
- Develop and maintain a database or other records of clients,
potential clients and friends of the University.
- Administer budget and resource allocation for multiple events
and business unit. Ensures budget compliance.
- Creates novel approaches to building business such as special
events, services or incentives. Produces informational items such
as brochures, invitations, direct mail, and advertising to promote
the University's facilities and services. Contact potential clients
from leads generated.
- May supervise staff and/or volunteers and ensure the efficient
recruitment and training functions for maintaining highly involved
and motivated employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
Events Coordinator:
Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (English,
Journalism, Public Relations, Communications) or related
field.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in event or meeting
management, fundraising or development, public, or client
relations.
Other: Related experience may be substituted for
education.
Clery act designated job as campus security authorities (CSA)
member and will comply with Clery Act requirements.
Events Specialist:
Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (English,
Journalism, Public Relations, Communications) or related
field.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience in marketing,
public relations, communications, or media, public, or client
relations.
Other: Related experience may be substituted for
education.
Clery act designated job as campus security authorities (CSA)
member and will comply with Clery Act requirements.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Both Levels)
Knowledge of position requirements. Knowledge of all applicable

Coordinator Hiring Range: $51,500 - $57,000, commensurate
with education and experience.
Specialist Hiring Range: $66,000 - $73,000, commensurate
with education and experience.
